592.True regarding iodine -123

a.half life –13hrs
b.decays wholly by positive beta
c.emits 160 keV Gamma rays
d.emit 28 keV X-rays
e. emit positive beta particle

592.acd---- Iodine -123 decays wholly by electron capture and emit no positive beta  particle. (Chapter 8, page no.123,second edition (2008),Farr’s Physics for Medical Imaging).

What is electron capture?

Electron capture is one of the radioactive transformation  of  radionuclides with a neutron deficit .Here the nucleus increase its number of neutrons relative to the number of protons by capturing a extranuclear electron from the nearest ( K) shell. In this process gamma rays and X- rays are emmitted.
